Hill, Elijah Jr.


(Major, U. S. Army Reserves, Korea) (02 Sep 1925 AL-04 Feb 2002 AL, buried Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Jefferson County, AL) (BS-Tuskegee University) (First African-American appointed to the position of Deputy U. S. Marshal in Alabama. Appointed by President John F. Kennedy. Participated as a Deputy U. S. Marshal in protecting marchers during the Selma to Montgomery Freedom March in 1965. Prior to joining the U. S. Marshals Service, worked for the Birmingham School System as a physical education teacher and basketball coach. He was affectionately called Mr. Hill by Judges and colleagues)
