The cemetery is located on Main Street directly across the street from the Trussville City Hall which is located at 131 Main Street, Trussville 35173. Main Street is also known as Gadsden Highway and U.S. Highway 11E in Trussville. The cemetery is bordered by the business district on the south of Main Street, a vacant lot on the north and residential housing on the western side. The cemetery is fenced with two sets of gates fronting Main Street.

Originally on the site of this cemetery the Cahawba Baptist Church was organized in 1821. The church has since moved a few blocks to it’s present location at 128 North Chalkville Mountain Road where it is now known as the Trussville First Baptist Church. It is the largest church both structurally and congregationally in the Trussville area.

This cemetery is in good condition and is well maintained. There has been some degradation of the memorial markers over a period of time as a result of weather and possibly vandalism. The old section of the cemetery has a huge Tulip tree that has pushed some of the graves around with it’s roots. There are about 30 rocks marking possible grave locations. There are also several concrete markers that do not contain any information or the information is unreadable. Some stones are very hard to read and therefore some minor mistakes may occur in transcribing these.

I completed transcribing this cemetery on Dec 15-30, 2006. It is a complete listing of all readable stones in the cemetery. This transcription was updated June 21, 2008.

** The 1860 Federal Census, Jefferson County, AL indicates Allen Fuller was aged 62 and a native of Massachusetts, Tobitha is listed as age 63 and a South Carolina native. The tombstone also uses the term "relict of" Thomas Worthington of South Carolina. Records indicate that Tobitha Summers married Thomas Worthington on June 1, 1816 in South Carolina. Worthington was born on June 1, 1797 and died on November 21, 1829. One of their sons married Elizabeth Truss at Pickens, SC on Aug 01, 1854. Elizabeth Truss is related to the Truss family of which the town of Trussville is named. Her husband Marcus Worthington, born Dec 30, 1827, apparently lost his life in the Civil War on Jun 22, 1864 while serving as an officer in Co. B, 11 AL Inf., CSA*
*** Webster’s Encyclopedia of Dictionaries
**** On the night of April 26, 1952, while steaming in formation with other ships some 700 miles west of the Azores, the Aircraft Carrier U. S. S. Wasp (CV-8) turned into the wind in order to land aircraft on her decks. The U. S. S. Hobson (DD-456) crossed the bow of the carrier and was struck amidships. The force of the collision broke the Hobson in two and rolled her over. The Hobson sank and 176 of her crew were lost, including the Captain, Lt. Commander W. J. Tierney. The U. S. S. Hobson had received six battle stars during WWII and shared a Presidential Unit Citation with other ships involved with antisubmarine warfare in the Atlantic.(Source: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.)
