(Quartermaster Second Class, U. S. Navy, Commander, U. S. Navy, U.S.S. Pueblo AGER-2) (01 Sep 1927 ID-28 Jan 2004 CA, buried Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, San Diego County, CA, Section A-E, Site 33A) (Vietnam War Veteran) (One of many wayward boys who was raised and educated at Father Flanigans Boy’s Town of Nebraska) (BS-University of Nebraska) (Captain of the U. S. S. Pueblo which was monitoring Communications and Signals in International Waters and was attacked by Warships and Aircraft of North Korea on Jan 23, 1968) Purple Heart Medal, Prisoner of War Medal (Editors Note: At the time of this incident, I was serving on a ship which was engaged in acoustical research on Submarines. Our small Navy crew had no way of defending ourselves against a possible boarding or attack. In my opinion, Commander Bucher should have been awarded the Medal of Honor for saving the lives of his crew and resisting the enemy while in captivity. Commander Bucher is one of my personal heroes.)
