From Highway 75 in Pinson, take Bud Holmes Road east toward Clay. Drive about one half mile to Church Street and turn right. The entrance to the cemetery is one block west of Bud Holmes Road on Church Street.

In the 1800’s this area was known as Hagood’s crossroads and/or Mt. Pinson. Marvin’s Chapel Church was established in 1875 probably as a Methodist Episcopal Church. The Methodist Episcopal church split with their northern brethren in 1844 over the issue of slavery. In 1939, the north and south Methodist Episcopal churches were reunited and along with the Methodist Protestant organization formed the Methodist Church. In 1960, a wooden cross was erected in a section of the cemetery which was made from timbers from the original Marvin’s Chapel. About 1968, the Methodist Church united with the Evangelical United Brethren to form the United Methodist Church.

The cemetery was established in 1878. Marvin McCoy was the first person to be buried here in that year. Some of those buried here have relatives buried at Red Hill Cemetery, also located in Pinson. The cemetery is in excellent condition although there appears to have been some minor vandalism. It is an active cemetery. There are over 400 surnames represented in this cemetery.

The transc||x||ription of this cemetery was commenced in early January, 2007 and completed on February 1, 2007. It is a complete survey of all the readable stones in the cemetery. This listing has been updated in March, 2015.
